[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Related Elective for those interested in IP Assets : This course is particularly important for anyone whose work will involve IP assets. Whatever your clients' industry -- from biotech to clean tech -- their IP assets are typically exploited by means of a licensing arrangement. This course examines licensing provisions which will be relevant in a variety of business sectors, however your clients may choose to protect their intellectual property (whether it be a patent on a new drug formula or the copyright on some form of communication media). General course Description: In this course we cover the major aspects of intellectual property licenses. We will cover patent, copyright, trademark and trade secret licenses in a variety of industries. We will focus on agreements governed by US federal and state law, but will cover select issues in cross border transactions. Topics include: grant language, upstream and downstream immunities, change of control events, indemnities, and insolvency. Using a case law-based approach, we will examine the interrelationship between contract language and background law. Introduction to Intellectual Property or consent of the instructor is a prerequisite for this course. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Course Frequency: Offered once a year |
