General course Description:
How did copyright law constrain and influence the design of YouTube? What role does trademark law play in Google and Yahoo's advertising businesses? As an attorney, how do you counsel clients through these complex issues, combining law, technology and business judgments? This course explores advanced topics in copyright and trademark as they apply to cutting-edge business models. Topics include DMCA safe harbors, trademarks and keyword advertising, digital music licensing, and other cutting edge issues in copyright and trademark. The focus is on applying these legal regimes to existing business models in order to evaluate the risks taken and strategies employed by today's technology leaders.
Introductory coursework in copyright, trademark, or cyberlaw required.
Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law
