[ Litigation ] as a Related Elective for those interested in Criminal Justice : You will want to select this course if you took the advanced seminar on Criminal Law and Policy in the Fall and you’d like to expand the research project you developed there. The additional policy work you'll do will be useful experience whether you plan to practice as a criminal lawyer or focus more on an academic or policy career. General course Description: Written Work. Students will expand upon the research begun in Petersilia's Fall 2012 class, turning their fall research papers into academic journal articles, ready for submission. This course meets the SLS writing (W) graduation requirement. This course is a follow on to the Fall 2012 course taught by Professor Petersilia. In that course, each student conducted research on an aspect of California sentencing and/or corrections. The Winter 2013 class will be designed for students who wish to expand their research projects with an eye towards journal publication. This class will also devote signficiant time to developing policy recommendations and delivering formal briefings to high level policymakers. Course Style: An Experiential course is one in which students undertake tasks derived from or akin to those done by practicing lawyers. Course Frequency: Offered once a year |
