[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Biosciences : Though not essential, it is useful for attorneys representing health care providers or lifescience companies to have a basic understanding of the science underlying their client's business and current issues in that area. Students may want to consider taking 1 or more courses on the biosciences used in medical research and the development of new drugs and molecular compounds. This course considers the relationship between nutrition and disease. General course Description: The study of food, and the nutrients and substances therein. Their action, interaction, and balance in relation to health and disease. Emphasis is on the biological, chemical, and physiological processes by which humans ingest, digest, absorb, transport, utilize, and excrete food. Dietary composition and individual choices are discussed in relationship to the food supply, and to population and cultural, race, ethnic, religious, and social economic diversity. The relationships between nutrition and disease; ethnic diets; vegetarianism; nutritional deficiencies; nutritional supplementation; phytochemicals. Prerequisite: Human Biology core or consent of instructor. Course Style: |
