[ Academia ] [ Litigation ] [ Regulatory & Policy ] [ Transactional ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Aging : It is highly useful for attorneys who represent health care providers or lifescience companies to have a basic understanding of both the scientific and the socioeconomic contexts within which their clients' legal issues arise. Students interested in health law policy addressing issues of aging should consider taking 1 or more classes on the multidisciplinary approach to the social and financial challenges posed by an aging population. This course considers a variety of interventions to promote health over the life course, applying the lessons of behavioral science to a number of risk reduction strategies. General course Description: Disease prevention and health promotion topics pertinent to different stages of the life span emphasizing healthy lifestyle and reducing risk factors in both individuals and communities. Focus is on scientific investigation, the application of behavioral science to risk reduction strategies, and the importance of health promotion as a social and economic imperative. Topics include: epidemiology of chronic diseases; social determinants of health, behavior change; obesity, nutrition, and stress; young adult, mid-life and aging health issues; health care delivery and public health system; workplace wellness programs; and environmental and international issues. Prerequisite: Human Biology core or equivalent, or consent of instructor. Course Style: |
