A benefits attorney may design and draft ERISA qualified plans, non-qualified plans, health and welfare benefit plans, equity compensation plans, and executive and deferred compensation plans. Generally, benefits attorneys advise companies with respect to their employee benefit plans and with respect to issues raised in connection with corporate mergers and acquisitions as they relate to the various benefit plans maintained by the affected corporate entities. Many benefits attorneys also represent clients before the IRS and the Department of Labor in audit and plan correction matters.
