[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Related Elective for those interested in Ethics : A clear understanding of the regulation of the legal profession and its rules of conduct is essential for every lawyer. Every student must complete a course in legal ethics and professional responsibility in order to graduate from law school and to be admitted to practice. This course and Professional Responsibility both survey the major ethical issues encountered in law practice, covering an individual lawyer’s responsibilities, the regulatory structure of the profession and its rules of conduct. General course Description: This course will explore issues involving professional responsibility. Topics will include the role of advocates, the adversary system, the conditions of practice, diversity, candor, and confidentiality, conflicts of interest, lawyer- client relationships, regulatory structures, and legal education. Special attention will also focus on the profession's public obligations in areas such as access to justice and pro bono service. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law |
