[ Transactional ] as a Foundational Course : At the heart of a nonprofit or exempt organizations business practice is tax law - - how to obtain and maintain tax-exempt status. The broader and deeper an attorney's background in this area, the better. This course provides core concepts and policy analysis of tax laws. It focuses on issues such as tax compliance, the choice between an income and a consumption tax, tax treatment of the family, taxation of e-commerce, tax shelters and tax treatment of "human capital." Many of these issues may be relevant when advising nonprofits on the best way to structure charitable donations. General course Description: This course will explore various tax policy issues. In past years, the issues we've explored have included the carbon tax, health care, social security, consumption tax, tax compliance, tax shelters and school financing. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Course Frequency: Offered once a year |
