[ Academia ] as a Related Elective for those interested in Antidiscrimination : Students interested in labor law should be well versed in anti-discrimination laws, as discrimination issues based on race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or disability are a significant part of most employment law practices. This course examines the causes and consequences of prejudice: consequences that may develop variously in education, employment or the criminal justice system. General course Description: The goal of this seminar is to critically review classic and contemporary social psychological approaches to stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. It examines the determinants, maintenance, and consequences of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. It also considers how these factors influence the experiences and outcomes of women and racial/ethnic minorities. Each week, the class works to tie general theories and findings to particular social domains (e.g., law, education, or employment). Course Style: A Substantive/ Perspective course looks at law from an external or non-traditional standpoint. |
