[ Academia ] as a Key Elective : Conservation and natural resources are central issues in environmental law. Laws affecting animals, like the Endangered Species Act, may also be considered part of the environmental law curriculum dealing with the conservation of natural resources. This course considers the development of federal and state policies on wild animals as well as domestic and companion animals. Students considering a career in environmental law may want to take one or more courses focusing on conservation and natural resources issues. General course Description: This course presents a survey of the historical and current status of this rapidly developing specialty. In brief, animal law encompasses all areas of the law in which the nature -- legal, social or biological -- of nonhuman animals is an important factor. It is an objective and logical specialization of a challenging area -- one with a growing number of cases and laws, increasing public and practical interest, and significantly different historical, legal and philosophical foundations than most other courses. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Course Frequency: Offered every other year |
