[ Transactional ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Strategic Decision-Making : Strategy and good decision-making are important components in a successful business or non-profit. Strategy can be about finding the right markets, or about other issues that must be managed in the social, political and legal environments of the particular industry. Students should consider taking 1 or more courses focusing on techniques to analyze data and make good decisions. Students who do not have a quantitative background should consider taking the GSB, rather than the MS&E, courses on strategic decision-making. General course Description: Analytical techniques such as linear and integer programming, Monte Carlo simulation, forecasting, decision analysis, and Markov chains in the environment of the spreadsheet. Probability management. Materials include spreadsheet add-ins for implementing these and other techniques. Emphasis is on building intuition through interactive modeling, and extending the applicability of this type of analysis through integration with existing business data structures.
