OB 385 Leading Social Change: Educational and Social Entrepreneurship (EDUC 321X) Graduate School of Business Recommended for route(s): [ Transactional ] Public Interest Law: General Why it is relevant for ... [ Transactional ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Innovation : Students interested in public interest work will benefit from a course on social entrepreneurship. This course focuses on initiatives in education but the case studies are instructive for other nonprofit organizations as well. General course Description: (Same as OB 385) The course provides an overview of different approaches to leading change in the social sector, drawing primarily, but not exclusively, on case examples in education. While there is a substantial need for innovation and visionary leadership in sectors such as education, social entrepreneurs who want to drive change must appreciate the significant barriers and unique opportunities presented by non-market forces in these sectors. The course will equip students with an appreciation for different mechanisms of change and theories of action as well as some of the challenges of initiating and sustaining meaningful change in social sectors such as education. The course will draw on readings and case studies, and we will benefit from the wisdom of an inspirational group of guest lecturers. While the course will benefit any student concerned with making a positive impact in the world, it is particularly (although not exclusively) appropriate for students in the joint MA/MBA program as well as those who will lead social change through nonprofit consulting or entrepreneurship. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Alternative Courses: |
