[ Litigation ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Stem Cells : Though not essential, it is useful for attorneys representing lifescience companies to have a basic understanding of the science underlying their client's business and current issues in that area. Students may want to consider taking 1 or more classes on the biology of stem cells and their potential for treating disease. Recent advances in molecular biology and human genetics have moved scientists further toward understanding the genetic control of development, and how complex multi-cellular structures are generated from a fertilized egg. This course examines the practical, industrial, and ethical aspects of stem cell technology application. General course Description: Quantitative models used to characterize incorporation of new cells into existing tissues emphasizing pluripotent cells such as embryonic and neural stem cells. Molecular methods to control stem cell decisions to self-renew, differentiate, die, or become quiescent. Practical, industrial, and ethical aspects of stem cell technology application.
