[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Economic Policy Analysis : Students considering a career in environmental law and policy will want to take one or more courses focusing on economic and policy tools and decision-making. This course is the second of a two course sequence considering sources of environmental problems in market economies and policy options for addressing these problems. Topics include alternative policy instruments such as taxes, standards, and tradable permits; valuation of non-marketed commodities; and environmental policy making under uncertainty. General course Description: Theoretical and empirical analysis of sources of and solutions to environmental problems, with application to local pollution challenges and global environmental issues such as climate change. Topics include: analysis of market failure, choice of environmental policy instruments, integrating environmental and distortionary taxes, environmental policy making under uncertainty, valuing environmental amenities, and measuring /promoting sustainable development. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law |
