[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Epidemiology : Though not essential, it is useful for attorneys representing health care providers or lifescience companies to have a basic understanding of the science underlying their client's business and current issues in that area. Students may want to consider taking 1 or more courses on the biological bases and risk factors for common diseases, including environmental factors and other sources of incidence. This course studies genetic risk factors for common diseases in human populations. General course Description: Provides framework for physicians, epidemiologists, and other scientists to interpret the literature and incorporate genetic information into human disease research. Topics include: common genetic measures, approaches to finding disease genes, study design and analysis issues, genome-wide association studies, meta-analysis of genetic studies, genetic risk prediction, and applications of new genomic technologies. Includes reading seminal papers in genetic epidemiology. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law |
