[ Academia ] [ Litigation ] [ Regulatory & Policy ] [ Transactional ] as a Relevant Course outside SLS for those interested in Health Policy : Students interested in the health care industry should consider selecting one or more courses that use empirical research and policy analysis to examine current systems of health care delivery and the options for health care reform. This course examines methods of conducting empirical studies which use large existing databases to ask both clinical and policy questions. Students must have a solid background in probability, statistics, or biostatistics. The Health Research and Policy program recommends HRP 259, Introduction to Probability and Statistics for Epidemiology. General course Description: Methods of conducting empirical studies which use large existing medical, survey, and other databases to ask both clinical and policy questions. Econometric and statistical models used to conduct medical outcomes research. How research is conducted on medical and health economics questions when a randomized trial is impossible. Problem sets emphasize hands-on data analysis and application of methods, including re-analyses of well-known studies. Prerequisites: one or more courses in probability, and statistics or biostatistics.
