[ Academia ] [ Litigation ] [ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Related Elective for those interested in Non Profits : As many lawyers practice public interest law through or with nonprofit organizations, it's important for students interested in this area to have a solid understanding of how such organizations work. This course addresses the legal framework for these entities. General course Description: This course provides an overview of the rules governing the formation and operation of nonprofit organizations. The course will focus both on the state laws governing nonprofit corporations and on federal tax laws. Topics will include the fiduciary duties of nonprofit directors, obtaining and maintaining tax-exempt status, nonprofit lobbying and political activities, and nonprofit earned income strategies, including social enterprise. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Course Frequency: Varied, check w/ registrar |
