[ Regulatory & Policy ] as a Key Elective : It is important for environmental lawyers to have an understanding of IP law. Increasingly, innovative technologies play a key role in addressing many environmental issues. Intellectual property rules affect the quality and availability of innovative ideas and products. This course focuses on trademark law and the protection of a company's goodwill in its associated marks. Students who want a more in-depth understanding of trademark law should take this course instead of the survey course, Introduction to Intellectual Property. General course Description: This course will focus on the exploitation of merchandising values (such as brand names), celebrity values (such as product endorsements) and competitive advantage (such as technical know-how) under federal and state trademark unfair competition, right of publicity and trade secret laws. An emphasis will be placed on business and litigation counseling considerations. Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law Course Frequency: Offered once a year |
