General course Description:
This course investigates the different strands of feminist theory and other critical theory, in an effort to understand the relationship between gender inequality and the law. It draws on literature from the social sciences that documents the mechanisms generating gender disparities. It further explores concrete issues like labor force discrimination, discrimination against mothers, sexuality, surrogacy, abortion, prostitution and pornography, through the lenses of feminist and other critical theories of the law. Applications of theory to law and policy are discussed. The course is conducted as a reading group, and requires active participation from participants.
Course Style: A Substantive course teaches the law, theory, and policy in a particular area of law
